Stage Reading of Tomohiro Maekawa’s “The Sun”

イキウメ『太陽』左より、浜田信也、大窪人衛Set in a post-apocalyptic world, and made into a film released in Japan in April 2016, “The Sun” — a smash-hit, award-winning play by the leading Japanese 42-year old playwright and director Tomohiro Maekawa — will be read on stage at RADA on Dec. 12, 2016, by English actors.

The 42-year-old playwright and founder of Tokyo’s Ikiume (Buried Alive) theater company has a large and loyal following at home, particularly among younger theatre lovers, due to his very imaginative sci-fi and supernatural taste in storytelling.

In 2010, Maekawa became the first Japanese playwright invited by London’s prestigious Royal Court Theatre to participate in its international residency program. This led to a monthlong stay during which he studied how he and his company could improve and modify Japanese plays for presentation in English to English-speaking audiences.

There will be a Q&A session with Maekawa after the reading.
