Japanese Street performers will gather in Koenji

On April 27 and 28, Tokyo’s trendy Koenji area just west of Shinjuku will kick off the big Golden Week spring holiday by playing host to a wide variety of thrilling street performers.

From acrobats to jugglers, gold-painted butoh dancers, mime artists and musicians, dancers, comedy and candy art performers, a total of 75 performers from 55 companies will appear in small streets, squares, temple compounds one after another — sometimes silently by themselves, and sometimes involving the spectators as everyone enjoys the weekend’s afternoons together.

So, be sure to put this popular annual event organized by Za-Koenji, the public theatre in Suginami-ku, in your diary. For sure, it will put an artistic spring in your stride in Koenji !
