“Fukushima Trilogy,” which won the prestigious Kishida Kunio drama award in 2019, will be performed at Kanagawa Arts Theatre in Yokohama from Feb. 9–14 as part of TPAM 2021 — the city’s annual Performing Arts Market.
Written by 38-year-old playwright and director Kenichi Tani, founder of the Tokyo-based Dull-Colored Pop theater company, “Fukushima Trilogy” comprises three, two-hour plays chronicling how the lives of three generations of a family are upended over 50 years by the nearby Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant that was destroyed in the wake of March 11, 2011’s massive earthquake and tsunami.
The plays are designed to be watched as self-contained works, or in succession on one day.
