Onscreen live theatre “Branagh Theatre Live” From Nov. 4

Toho cinemas nationwide

It started in 2009, when the UK’s London-based National Theatre began filming some of its performances and distributing the movies to selected cinema audiences worldwide in what it calls its NT Live series.

Now, in light of the NT’s great success in Japan, Britain’s renowned Shakespearean actor Kenneth Branagh is following suit with a series of Branagh Theatre Live films made by his own Kenneth Branagh Theatre Company.

To launch the BTL brand here, two of its Shakespeare productions — “The Winter’s Tale” starring Judi Dench, and “Romeo and Juliet” starring Lily James and Richard Madden — along with John Osborne’s “The Entertainer” starring Kenneth Branagh, will be showing for a month from Nov. 4 at Toho cinemas in Nihonbashi (central Tokyo), Kichijoji (western Tokyo), Kawasaki, Nagoya, Umeda (Osaka), Nishinomiya (Hyogo Pref.), Nijo (Kyoto city) and Tenjin (Fukuoka city). Surely, more diamonds from a very rich mine.
